Juan Mata on Victor Valdes' situation : “It’s a shame what is happening with him"

Manchester United and Spanish midfielder Juan Mata admits he is disappointed with what has happed with Spanish compatriot Victor Valdes. The Spanish goalkeeper has been isolated from the Manchester United squad after a disagreement with Manchester United's head coach Van Gaal, it seems as though the club were eager to get him off their wage bill.

However, Valdes ended up staying put – a move which has failed to reap the dividends as Van Gaal continues to exclude the Spaniard from proceedings.

The 33-year-old has been axed from Manchester United’s first team this campaign and was even excluded from their official squad photo.

Mata admits he feels sadness seeing such a “great goalkeeper” training by himself and not being involved, saying: “It’s a shame what is happening with him, as he is a great goalkeeper.
“He wants to compete and has proved himself as a goalkeeper.

“I don’t know what happened between him and Van Gaal; that is something only they can say.”
