Arsene Wenger confirms key player will miss weekend clash against Leicester

FRANCIS COQUELIN is the latest name on Arsenal's injury list after suffering a swollen knee against Chelsea and will sit out tomorrow action against Leicester.

The 24-year-old midfield enforcer has started all of Arsenal’s six Premier League matches this season, providing the tough grit that Arsenal have been lacking for years.

However, manager Arsene Wenger refused to confirm Frenchman Flamini will take compatriot Coquelin’s place for the trip to the King Power Stadium after he scored a wining double in the 2-1 victory over Tottenham in the League Cup on Wednesday night.

“Coquelin is improving well but he is not available for tomorrow. He might start practice tomorrow,” Wenger explained.

“He will have a scan today but it looks quite positive. It’s a little bone in the knee.”

On Flamini’s inclusion for the Gunners’ trip to Leicester, Wenger added: “It is possible. I have to see how we have recovered (from the Tottenham game). It will be a late decision for me.”

Gabriel still faces a second Football Association (FA) charge for alleged improper conduct concerning his heated reaction to referee Mike Dean.

"Gabriel's case will be heard today," Wenger confirmed. "We are hopeful [he won't be receiving a further ban]. I prefer the action to be taken on the pitch. He was sorry about what had happened. He is a fighter. In training he was completely focused."
