Argentine legend Diego Maradona has taken on the role as the Latin American chairman for the non-governmental organisation Football for Unity, which was offered to him by Queen Elizabeth II of England. The Football for Unity aims to help children all around the world with the backing of various countries, including the support of the British monarchy and FIFA.
In a video posted on Facebook the Argentinian legend can be heard to say: "I, Diego Armando Maradona, would like to give my regards to the Queen and the British Parliament, and tell them I wholeheartedly accept the nomination they have given me for the foundation in Latin America."
"You can be sure that I will take good care of the kids of Latin America and I am extremely grateful for the trust you have placed in me. I am honest and corrupt people have no place with me," Maradona added.
The video titled 'Thanks to the Queen of England for this moment' was also shown in the Houses of Parliament.
"I want the best for the kids. Together we're going to make them smile and that'll be our reward. There's no place for corruption here, you can be sure of that," Maradona insisted.
The Argentine legend posted a text in Spanish, Italian and English, stating that the appointment would enable him to "work for a better society, and leave a legacy that lasts over time throughout new generations".
