Barcelona are convinced Real Madrid are on the verge of being hit with the same double transfer-window ban on signing new players that they have endured for the last year.
If the FIFA penalty is imposed it will throw Real Madrid’s summer plans into chaos with a move for Chelsea’s Eden Hazard and the sale of Cristiano Ronaldo to Paris Saint-Germain both derailed.
FC Barcelona issued an appeal in order to sign players despite the transfer embargo however the players signed were are unable to feature for the Catalan giants until January of 2016. This is when the Embargo will be lift. With Real Madrid and Atletico Madrid doing the same thing thing that got FC Barcelona in that situation it would just be a matter of time until both teams are notified of their punishments.
Unhappy at the way FIFA appear to be delaying imposing the penalty Catalan media got in touch with the game’s governing body this week only to be told that it would not discuss the matter until the clubs involved had been informed.
The timing of the notification will be cruial in regard to when Real Madrid will not be able to sign players. It is standard practice for clubs to appeal these decisions as Barcelona did and therefore delay the start of their punishment by one transfer window in order to get a chance to bring in players until the appeal is judged.
That would mean if Real Madrid and Atletico Madrid are informed before the end of the year then the ban is unlikely to stop them signing anyone in January as an appeal process will be under way. However they would be unable to sign players or at least play anyone they had signed until 2017 which would be when the transfer embargo ends.
But if FIFA delay their announcement of any ban until after January then Real Madrid and Atletico Madrid would have the summer to sign players while they were appealing FIFA’s decision.
Under FIFA rule players under the age of 18 can only switch national federations if both their parents move country for reasons unrelated to football.
A new governing body could call an amnesty which would let Real and Atletico free from the consequences of their actions.
