Real Madrid coach Rafa Benítez is having to keep particularly close tabs on Karim Benzema, with the Frenchman being involved in the ongoing legal saga surrounding the Mathieu Valbuena blackmail scandal.
This is Benítez's verdict on Benzema's frame of mind: "All I have to go on is what I see from him in training. He's been working well. When I speak to him I urge him to focus on football. That's all I can say".
The tactician was unwilling to go into any detail about the Valbuena case at his Saturday press conference, himself insisting on sticking to matters directly related to the field of play.
Karim Benzema is likely to be left out of France's squad for Euro 2016 over his part in the alleged blackmail of Mathieu Valbuena.
Valbuena said on Friday that France international team-mate Karim Benzema 'indirectly' told him he had to pay a ransom to get back a sex tape of him with his girlfriend.
And according to French paper L'Equipe the scandal has thrown the Real Madrid star's international future into doubt, with the judicial process likely to see him miss the tournament this summer. Mathieu Valbuena could also be left out of the French squad for Euro 2016 due to the case currently being investigated.
