Louis Van Gaal: "Luke Shaw Out For Six Months"

Manchester United's Left-back Luke Shaw suffered a double fracture to his leg in a Champions League match against PSV with Manchester United losing the fixture 2-1.

Shaw was given oxygen and treated by several medical staff during the nine-minute stoppage before he was taken off on a stretcher carefully placed on a trolley to be taken to hospital. He will return to Manchester on Wednesday or Thursday for an operation.

A clearly-shaken van Gaal tried to comfort Shaw as he left the pitch and the United boss said: "It is awful. A boy who came to Manchester United at 18, had a difficult time and then plays fantastic in his second season. Then, it happens like this."

"When he came into the dressing room, I couldn't say anything to him because he had on an oxygen mask, and he was crying," the coach added.

"I am not a doctor so I cannot say how long he will be out but when you have a double fracture I think it is six months, it depends how it develops. He won't play in the (Champions League) group phase any more. I hope he can play this season," van Gaal said.
