Nantes defender Papy Djilobodji set to join Chelsea

Chelsea are set to sign Senegal international Papy Djilobodji from Nantes in a £2.7million deal before the transfer window shut.

Djilobodji, who had been tracked by the champions’ recruitment department over the past two years, underwent a medical at Cobham on Monday and is expected to sign a four-year contract at Stamford Bridge. The centre-half had entered the final 12 months of his deal at Nantes and, having made clear his desire to leave this summer, had been training with the development squad at the French club over recent weeks.

Mourinho has moved to address the Premier League champions' defensive concerns after they conceded nine goals in their first four league games.

That has left them eight points behind leaders Manchester City before they return to action at Everton on 12 September.

Winger Victor Moses, 24, is expected to sign a new contract at Stamford Bridge before joining West Ham on loan.

The Chelsea boss has been left frustrated by a lack of new signings this summer and Djilobodji must be seen as a gamble on the part of the Londoners.
