Chelsea's new £600m stadium unveiled

Chelsea Football Club has revealed their proposal on an impressive new 60,000 seater stadium on.

As the planning process moves into the consultation phase, 160 documents and drawings were published showing every aspect of the Premier League champions' £600m new home.

The stadium has been designed by Herzog & de Meuron, chosen by club owner Abramovich because of their fine track record for designing architecturally stunning venues including the Bird's Nest in Beijing, Munich's Allianz Arena and Bordeaux's new ground.  The Blues will remain at the Stamford Bridge ground which means home matches will be hosted at another venue.

Chelsea are currently negotiating with the Football Association to move to the Wembley stadium, Chelsea are expected to pay £15m in each of the three seasons.  This is more than the £11m a season offered by rivals Tottenham. Chelsea would not be able to use the full capacity of the Wembley Stadium with most games restricted to 50,000.

Next season will see both Stamford Bridge hotels, plus the bars, restaurants and the health club demolished.

The club will vacate the stadium in May 2017 and it will then be demolished entirety between June 2017 and September 2018.

Foundations will be dug out and the new stadium will rise from there. A fourth phase, between December 2018 and July 2020 will see the surrounding area developed, with a new restaurant/cafe, club shop and museum to be built.

Then, all being well, Chelsea will play their first match at a 60,000-seater Stamford Bridge in August of 2020.

A resident hawk will fly across the construction site on a daily basis to prevent 'nuisance birds' taking up residence.
