Riyad Mahrez: ‘I wanted to stay at Leicester to grow up with this team and play in the Champions League.’

RIYAD MAHREZ claims Champions League glory nights are the reason why he stayed at Leicester.

The PFA Player of the Year and Ballon d’Or nominee is sure he made the right call to snub interest from Arsenal and sign a new £100,000-a-week deal with the Foxes.

“Even when there was speculation in the summer, I was good. I didn’t follow it too much.

“I wanted to stay at Leicester to grow up with this team and play in the Champions League with them. I’m happy to be here.”

But Leicester go into this Euro clash on the back of defeats to West Brom and Watford that have left them just two points above the Premier League drop zone.

A win tonight would even see their European points tally better their Prem total.

Mahrez has not found the net from open play in the top flight since April.
